**coughs** well, actually, I havent even started...I have ideas but nothing concrete as yet - still in the planning stage (as always). I think I'll wait till after exams (June 17, shit shit shit) and then see what I can do about disciplining myself into doing a bit each day. Probably impossible, but you never know! I shall never give up! Because if I do, my characters might kill me...

What I thought would taken me a week to write, has taken a six weeks to write one specific scene that accounts for nine people. :S Some days, I wonder what I gotten myself into. Other days, I want to strangle my characters and then there are times where I want to hug, 'em. I have a rough WC of 70,000, which I guess is decent. I'm actually not sure what a novel length is supposed to be. That being said, technically, I'm three thirds through my novel. *sighs* It'll be weird when I finish. It'll be a, "Yay!" and then, "Bummer... It's over.

The generally accepted "novel length" among publishers is betwee 80,000 and 110,000 according to the research I've done lately. If you get over 200,000 words they start calling it an "Epic". *shrugs* Who knew?

FREAK will be about 90K when it's finished. *sighs* I'm about 30K into it right now.

young adult novels can be shorter. Mine is a young adult novel and runs about 40k. The second will be at least 80k though.

I just noticed this, so i'm joining in. I have a work-in-progress already, with a couple hitches: one of the characters has a crude mouth, and I want to clean it him up a bit without losing the shock factor. It's the only time I use any swear words, and I'm not sure if I should leave them in or substitute them.... And, I have a tendency for rough transitions. Usually the scenes are different, or there's a time-elapse. I think it impairs the flow of the story, but I'd need someone else's opinion. Here's a run-down on FIRES ECLIPSE:
Genre: Fantasy Main Character: Ember Co-mains: Shivoc Copper Antagonist: Sharkiya Lesser antagonist: Murkoon
Plot: Ember is a nomad rejected from her homeland for aiding the enemy. Her nomadic life is upheaved by the arrival of Copper, an energetic boy genius; Shivoc; a man of the same race she was removed from her homeland for helping; and her baby, who holds the key to stopping the four-way war forever....if she can overcome her hatred of the Shraviks long enough for the child to be nationally recognized as the world leader depicted in the Prophesy.
Right now it's at 9600 words and 18 pages; that's only the typed. It's more around 50 with the written.

I'm working on my novel about the Great Potato Famine. From reading several writing magazines, I have concluded that it's best to get to know my characters first and generally get an idea of what I'm actually doing! lol So I'm in the "planning" stage right now. Maybe when school's over...*sigh* better get to that biology test...

Sorry for being so nondescriptive earlier on length. it's about 60,000 words. i'm halfway through... I have questions, but I don't suppose here's the place to post them.
Snoink - I can't wait for Freak. I'm an avid reader. I feel unworthy to critique...and sort of too lazy, as well.

Uhhh... I had a novel. I technically still do, but it's currently taking refuge from moi in a cardboard box under the bed. It's a pretty long novel so far, for me being so far yet from the end. The Tower of Souls, all reincarnation and death and redemption and emotion - yuck, all the fun stuff that's so darn hard to write properly. I'm having a hard time getting inspired, a hard time actually writing the stupid thing. It's very annoying - I have all the pre-notes, all the outlines, all the dialogues and scene sketches and character sketches and charater backstoryies and character motives and no novel to speak of. I keep writing up to chapter seven and looping back for a big intensive rewrite, which invariably results in writers block. I love my main character. He is totally beyond awesome, well rounded, well developed. I love my plot line. I hate my writing. Everything's so thick and heavy and stuffy. Seriously, this thing reads like stereo instructions. Yay me. -Dream Deep

I don't really know how much I'm going to get done in a year. However, I'm hoping to have a few chapters to post by the end of next month. I long-hand everything, so getting it typed is a major production for me. But I have an idea, I'm totally inspired, and I'm ready to continue with the writing.
