This directed at the old members of YWS.
Many of you are refugees from YWS. Dusky is still in the process of getting things organized. In the lounge, I'm seeing complaints about "no chatrooms" or "no blogs."
Come on people, this site was born yesterday. Show some backbone!
The intention of this site is not to replace YWS, at least not right away. It's job is to give people a place from YWS to go. Nate was a fantastic Admin and it will take a long while for Dusky to even approach the work Nate put into the site.
YWS had a lot of good things: a chatroom, a photo album, a blog, and even an arcade! These things take up space. Unless Dusky has several gigs of space, this stuff just won't happen. So, this might mean going to one of the blogging sites for your daily updates, going to online gaming sites, or even visiting imageshack!
These things did exist before YWS and they sure live now.
So, be patient. When YWS comes back, these things will be waiting. For now though, give Dusky a chance to breathe.

Well yeah, that is true and all, but what I've mostly been hearing (and saying) is that these are things about YWS we miss and think the new site would benefit from - as far as I'm aware, nobody has been *complaining* as such. At least, I know none of my comments were every intended that way. So I think you're being a bit extreme Grif . I mean, its not like anyone is hassling Dusky to put up blogs or else...are they?

The point is, you don't really recognise how impossible that is. Nate bought his site and his bandwidth, so he had absolute control over it: this is just a board that we rent for free from another site. We can't just up and create blogs or a chatroom; it doesn't work like that, we're constrained by the limits of what you can do with free websites.
Guys, blogs are simply not going to happen - there's basically no possibility, unless we find some crazy loophole. The whole lot of us are working really hard to find ways around all the problems, but people just have to accept that many, many things simply aren't possible with the constraints we're working under.
Anything that's possible, we'll do, but don't expect this to have all the features and flair that YWS did - if we could afford that, we would have paid to keep the place up to begin with...

I was never active over at YWS, but one of the things that greatly deterred me was all the emphasis on not writing.
I like how society revisited is now; it's simple. Of course, most sites like this never go anywhere, but Society Revisited is strongly benefiting from the closure of a major site.
No blogs. No chat. Just forums I say.

Well, it's not exactly benefiting - it's just becoming the YWS, at least temporarily.
While I think that we can go too far overboard with things, I also think that community is a massive part of a place like this - we wouldn't all be here if it wasn't the people we were drawn to. And a large part of feeling like you're in a community is participating. Chats, blogs, they're all good for making people feel more at ease, they just need to be secondary to the writing, that's all.

I honestly didn't take advantage of most of what Nate offered; so long as I can post, I'm OK...guess it's because I don't spend much time online (I'm raising a steer, working with a horse, and running my butt off in general, so I don't have much spare time period.) ...lol. Yes, why have hotrods when you can have tanks, right, Grif?

If people want blogs, do what I did...
I just made a blog on another site, like Xanga or Geocities... Then put like a link to it in your signature or something... Or we could even make a thread of people's links to stuff, like blogs or myspaces or fanfiction.net profiles etc...
Just stop complaining about it, please...
