For any of you that know me, you know that I am not a math-minded person in the least. I hate numbers with a passion (mostly because they make things so absolute).
Well... today I went through and looked at where we're posting around the site and came up with some numbers that I really don't like.
As of today, our posts in the Lounge and in the Randomness take up 43.9% of our total posts on the forum. 43.9%, guys... That's a huge amount.
And only 15.5% of our posts are in the literary forums (poetry, fiction, art).
This just doesn't work, guys. We are a group of writers, not random young people thrown together. We need to start posting more in the literary sections or by the time the YWS comes back, we're all going be so used to just posting in the lounge that everything we worked to pull together at the old YWS will be wasted.
I need to see a shift in the posting over the next week or so, or I'm going to have to start taking some more drastic measures. I really don't want to have to take away your places to chat and hang out, but if we're not getting anything else done, then they need to be reigned in somehow.
Thank you.

Ok, I'll work on that.
EDIT: Can you post a story in two places?

No. If you're uncertain where it should go though, contact a mod. We can help you decide.

Actually, simply counting posts isn't really a valid measure for calculating the balance between non-literary and literary pieces.
You're basically telling people they should spend more time writing 500-word responses to pieces of work than one-word answers to randomness topics. This simply isn't viable. It takes much less time to type the randomness post.
What we need is to lower the percentage.
Don't take too drastic measures - this will simply anatagonise the site. However, I'll work on commenting on pieces more, because I'm probably more guilty of this than anyone else.

I don't think that you and I are on very different pages, Jack. I'm not looking to have more posts in the literary than in the randomness, I'm just looking to lower the percentage in the lounge and the randomness sections.

Thanks Grif but I got it. Good ol' fan fiction'll work just fine.

If you're going to do something to lower the percentage, just delete the randomness forum and force off-topic, chatty discussion to make sense. Randomness doesn't really belong on any message board.
I'd support that change.

Grr.
Randomness is a good place to socialize and goof off.

I'd support that change. I have my reasons for not doing that, but if things continue this way it may enter into the possibilities again.

Don't take Randomness away, Dusky... But, no, I do see your point. I'll work harder in the forums... It's just that all that once you get to know a whole pile of people, it's nice to sort of hang out with them... Lord, what am I saying? You know this... I understand, Dusky, I think we've definitely lost sight of our main goal. It was called The Young WRITER'S Society, not the Young Chit-Chat Society... Thank you, Dusky, for the warning... Lol, I believe you'll find me in the fiction forum...

If you delete Randomness, won't people just move their discussions into The Lounge? I can't see how that would help much...

It be tough on everyone all the way around if we deleted the Randomness. The members wouldn't like it and the mods would be on double duty making sure that random topics didn't pop up in other places. So, no, it wouldn't work well and I don't want to have to try and make it work.

I love you, Dusky.
You have this knack for making me feel like an irresponsible child... but a GOOD irresponsible child, a loved one that still has some hope.
How weird.
Thank you, Dusky, for this huge undertaking. I greatly admire what you're doing - I'll be workin harder. ^_^
You got me back into focus, here. *hugs*

I completely agree. No one has commented on my stories which have been there for a month. You are right.
