Since mine are UK SATs, they won't mean a thing to you, but my Y9s were 8-7-7, English-Math-Science.

I'm assuming that you are taking the new SATs (meaning you can get up to 2400 points) and from what I hear anything from 1700-1900 is a quote "respectable" score.
I'm taking them in June as well and have been studying like mad. My goal is to achieve over 2000. However, I'm a stupid overachiever and will probably fall flat on my face.
Anyways... the SATs are honestly, nothing to sweat about. You make sure you know the material, you do your best, you keep your head during the test and don't worry about the score until you're done. Kay?

I got something like 1950 on mine. Anything above 2000 is excellent and can get you into almost any college, I think. I've heard a lot of scores around 1500, so I'd say anything above that is an okay score.

Now, I have no idea with these numbers mean. I took my SATs before the switchover when it was out of 1600 (or something), before the essay was put in and all that jazz. But really unless you are gunho to get into that steller school SATs really aren't a big deal as people make them out to be. I personally thought my Advanced Placement tests were more important, but then I'm lazy and don't want to retake course I already have in highschool.

Meh. Anywhere between 1500 and 1900 is "respecatable" but 1700+ is "good".
Also, I just did the ACT (w00t mid-west!) which is basically the same but not as wacky a scoring scale....only 36 possible points, and I got 27.

I did SATS...year ago.
1900 was me, I believe. I got a perfect on the essay, and it was the only worthwhile bit of the thing. How many ways can a complex sentence be interepreted? ONE - so says the SAT. It knows.

It really depends on what schools you're interested in. Just as the SAT is graded on a curve, "good" scores are curve-based depending on the school you're interested in.
Junior colleges just want an SAT score, they don't care what it is. Most state-supported schools have an average SAT score of about 1550. Private universities tend to vary by about three-hundred points, but anywhere between 2100 and 2400 are the "acceptable" score ranges at schools like Yale, Rice, Harvard, Cornell, and so on.
Keep in mind that SATs not only get you admission into the school of your choice, but also determine your scholarship eligibility and financial aid offers. Yes, they're silly and not an actually quantifying-intelligence examination, but they are the only real grading stick colleges have to go on. I'm not going to say the SAT determines what kind of person you'll be, or what kind of life you'll have, but it certainly will determine whether or not you will even be considered for admission to upper-division universities.

Ever heard of high school transcripts, admissions tests, auditions, and essays? Not to mention all kinds of extra-curriculars and volunteer work and such. Many countries don't have SAT's and we get along just fine without them.

Lots of places don't have SATS, Rei, but that's not the discussion here. America does and Dream just needs some insight. UK has a totally different system for entering university, but it seems most of these systems work for the countries in question.

*sighs* you lucky people who live in canada.
Here in the US, there are very few colleges that will accept you without a SAT score of some sort. In fact... I can't think of any off the top of my head.
On a brighter note. I just took a sample test today and got a 2090. Hopefully I can do even better on the real thing. We'll see.

Oh, I know. But Brad was saying that colleges have nothing to go on but SAT's and I felt the need to point out how rediculous that is. Where else am I supposed to say it?
